Online Poker Tells

Online poker is something of a double-edged sword, it removes one of the potentially most useful and important elements of a successful poker game: the tell. A tell is a physical sign that a person has that reveals their current mood, an indicator as to the sort of hand he is holding. However, online poker reduces the physical tells, but remember, at the end of each machine is a human, and human emotion still plays an important factor in the online process. This article will give a breakdown of some of the more common poker tells to look out for when engaging in online gaming. Some online poker sites make use of check boxes for options such as fold, raise, call etc, and to tell if a player has used the checkbox is very easy, because usually that players choice will be processed in a matter of seconds prior to the next player. If the player in question uses the checkbox to select the “raise any” option, then it is pretty self-evident that that player has a strong hand and is keen to press the advantage. If the player uses the check option, then his hand is most likely weak and is looking to conceal such weakness, whilst these should be taken as a general guideline only, they can serve as a good basis to compare the results against allowing you to take a more accurate “average” of a particular players behaviour allowing you to readily predict his next move. Be observant as to how often a player folds with a weak hand, if he does indeed fold a lot of weak hands, then beware, he wont be easily intimidated or drawn into a bluff, he would rather save his chips for a more steady bet.
